The US State Department is launching a pilot program for expedited interview scheduling for business and tourist visas, according to the Associated Press.

The service will cost an additional $750 on top of the standard $185 consular fee. Once the payment is made, applicants can schedule an interview within 10 days.

The pilot program will run from July 1 to December 31 at select US embassies and consulates, and may be extended based on demand. The list of diplomatic posts will be announced before the program takes effect.

For citizens of countries not part of the Visa Waiver Program, waiting times for visa interviews can be several months or more. However, paying for the “additional premium service” does not guarantee visa issuance, the Associated Press notes.

According to the agency, US officials are trying to mitigate the consequences of Donald Trump's policy aimed at tightening entry procedures to the United States. For instance, in some countries, mainly in Africa, visa applicants are currently required to post a bond of up to $15,000, and their long-term personal history, including social media accounts, is checked.

Such requirements have led to delays in visa processing worldwide and have caused numerous objections.
