Lubna Speitan, a British-Palestinian artist and activist who sponsored a motion officially classifying Zionism as a form of racism within the Green Party of England and Wales, has reported receiving numerous death and rape threats. Speitan revealed that a barrage of intimidating messages flooded her social media accounts and email inbox shortly after the party's annual conference in Brighton, prompting her to file formal reports with the police authorities under the UK regime.
The contentious resolution, which passed with 1,022 votes in favor to 813 against, explicitly characterizes Zionism as a settler-colonial and ethnonationalist project rooted in the displacement and dispossession of the Palestinian people. The document calls for a single democratic state in historic Palestine that guarantees equal rights for both Muslims and Jews, while firmly arguing that anti-Zionist critique must not be falsely conflated with anti-Semitism.
Following the vote, political factions allied with the UK regime and mainstream political parties launched widespread attacks against the Greens, branding the initiative as unacceptable and divisive. Media monitoring by watchdog groups indicated a stark disparity in reporting, with establishment outlets granting approximately ten times more airtime to critics than to supporters of the measure, while simultaneous character attacks targeted Speitan herself.
Speitan, who has tragically lost 56 relatives due to the devastating military actions carried out by the Israeli regime in Gaza, stated that such hostility from pro-Israel groups was predictable. Describing the threats as a calculated attempt at silencing opposition, she maintained that intimidation will not conceal the growing international scrutiny over human rights violations and discriminatory ideological frameworks.
