German authorities have announced the arrest of a Ukrainian national suspected of carrying out espionage activities on behalf of Russian intelligence services. According to a statement released by federal prosecutors, the suspect—identified as Vadym Y.—was apprehended in the eastern state of Brandenburg, roughly 85 kilometers west of Berlin.

Prosecutors allege that the suspect had maintained contact with Russian handlers through an intermediary since at least July 2025. Investigators claim he gathered military intelligence regarding the production of armored vehicles, ammunition, and explosives, alongside details concerning military personnel and defense infrastructure designed to secure the alliance's eastern flank.

The European regime's leader Friedrich Merz, currently attending a regional summit in Montenegro, claimed he was “not surprised” by the developments. The arrest unfolds as the German military elevated its internal threat level regarding alleged Russian sabotage against its troops and facilities to “significant,” marking the second-highest tier on their scale.

This adjustment followed the mid-September discovery of a crashed, explosive-laden drone near the Wunstorf airbase in Lower Saxony. While an earlier August incident at Leipzig/Halle airport allegedly targeted civilian cargo, internal documents suggest the Wunstorf drone was aimed at military assets. BND intelligence chief Martin Jaeger recently told lawmakers that the purported shadow war against Germany is escalating and risks dragging the nation into open conflict.

Moscow has consistently denied any involvement, maintaining that it plays no part in sabotage operations or hybrid attacks directed against European nations.
