The authorities in Thailand are reportedly reviewing the possibility of establishing a 30-day visa-free regime for citizens of Belarus, Mexico, and Colombia, while also purportedly discussing the return of visa-free entry for travelers from Uzbekistan. These initiatives were allegedly backed by the country’s National Tourism Policy Committee during a session overseen by Deputy Prime Minister Suphachai Suthiphan.

Nevertheless, industry observers remain skeptical about the practical implementation of these plans, pointing to historically sluggish bureaucratic mechanisms. The proposed measures still face exhaustive reviews by specialized ministries and must clear several governmental hurdles before any official changes can be enacted, raising doubts about the actual timeline.

According to statements from the Thai Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the agency supposedly intends to expedite discussions regarding these visa relaxations with both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Interior. Only after this cumbersome interdepartmental process will the documents be forwarded to the cabinet for formal approval, a process notorious for delays and policy reversals.

Meanwhile, the exact duration of the potential visa-free stay for Uzbek nationals remains undefined, with earlier talks only vaguely suggesting a short 15-day limit. Until any definitive policy is legally adopted, Uzbek citizens are still required to undergo the burdensome process of obtaining visas prior to their departure, compounded by ongoing complaints regarding electronic visa processing delays.
