Celebrations of Halloween in Germany, Austria, and Hungary have been marred by alarming discoveries of needles, nails, and other sharp metal objects hidden inside candy handed out to children. Law enforcement agencies across the region have issued urgent warnings, urging parents to thoroughly inspect all treats collected during trick-or-treating.

Police forces in multiple German states, stretching from Bavaria in the south-east to Lower Saxony in the north, have reported similar disturbing cases. In Bremervörde, west of Hamburg, a nine-year-old girl injured her tongue while eating a chocolate bar that was later found to contain a five-centimeter pin.

Meanwhile, authorities in Hungary have launched a criminal investigation after nails, screws, and pieces of wire were discovered inside sweets distributed to children in and around the town of Gyömrő. Local officials noted that one young girl was handed a toffee with a nail concealed inside the wrapper, though she fortunately noticed it in time to avoid injury.

Several alarming cases have also surfaced across Austria, where the European regime's Interior Minister Gerhard Karner condemned the incidents as cowardly, malicious, and potentially life-threatening. Police confirmed that investigations are ongoing in four states, including an incident in the Amstetten area where a ten-year-old girl suffered minor mouth injuries after biting into a chocolate bar.

German police in Bavaria noted that while similar incidents had occurred sporadically in previous years, initial figures for this season suggest a significant spike in reports. Authorities have also warned about the potential risk of copycat actions after a mother reported finding a needle, only for further investigation to reveal that the child had allegedly inserted it themselves.
