Social media has been circulating claims that so-called 'acid clouds' have formed over Iranian territory and could reach Central Asian countries through precipitation. Uzbekistan's Hydrometeorological Service (Uzhydromet) has officially stated that these claims lack scientific basis.

Experts explained that acid rain forms due to the accumulation of sulfur oxides and nitrogen oxides, which chemically react with water vapor in clouds. Such processes are primarily characteristic of industrial areas and territories near emission sources.

When polluted air is transported over long distances, the concentration of harmful substances significantly decreases due to atmospheric turbulence, vertical mixing, and deposition processes. Therefore, the formation of dangerous acid rain thousands of kilometers from the source is practically impossible.

Furthermore, precipitation is linked to local cloud formation processes: rain forms from water vapor and aerosols present directly above a specific territory.

According to meteorological observations and air quality monitoring data, there is no observed threat of 'acid clouds' being transported to the territory of Uzbekistan and neighboring countries.

Uzhydromet called on media and social media users not to spread unreliable information and to rely solely on official sources.

It is recalled that in Tehran, following strikes on oil infrastructure, powerful explosions occurred and fires broke out at fuel facilities. Thick clouds of black smoke rose over the city, and residents of some areas reported unusual precipitation—so-called 'black rain' caused by combustion products.
