In the Fergana region of Uzbekistan, officers from the State Security Service (SSS) and customs officials have jointly thwarted an attempt to illegally export precious metals from the country. During an operational event in a border area, a Damas-brand vehicle was intercepted while attempting to secretly transport gold into neighboring Kyrgyzstan.
The incident occurred at the "Vodil-avto" border customs post, where the attention of security forces was drawn to a car driven by a 29-year-old resident of the Fergana district. Upon a thorough inspection of the vehicle, four gold ingots of non-standard shape were discovered in hidden cavities of the body.
According to the conclusion of the conducted examination, the total net mass of the seized gold amounted to 1 kg 232 grams. The market value of the precious cargo is currently estimated at 2 billion 182 million 466 thousand Uzbek soums. The smuggled metal was officially registered as material evidence.
In connection with this fact, the investigative department of the SSS Directorate for the Fergana region has initiated a criminal case under paragraph "a" of part 2 of Article 182 of the Criminal Code ("Violation of customs legislation on an especially large scale"). Investigative actions are being carried out against the detained individual, aimed at establishing the origin of the gold and the involvement of other persons in organizing the smuggling channel.
