Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump, expressed hope for an end to the war by 2026. The American leader, in turn, stated his desire to reach a peace agreement as soon as possible—within a month. This was reported by the portal Axios, citing a Ukrainian official and sources familiar with the details of the talks.

According to the publication, Zelenskyy noted that he expects the conflict to end this year. In response, Trump said the war has been going on too long and expressed hope for its swift conclusion.

Sources also reported that the U.S. president confirmed readiness to provide Ukraine with significant security guarantees from the U.S. as part of a possible peace agreement with Russia.

In the conversation, in addition to the leaders of the two countries, special envoy Steve Witkoff and the American president's son-in-law Jared Kushner participated. According to Zelenskyy, the sides discussed issues that representatives will work on at a bilateral meeting in Geneva on February 26, as well as preparations for the next round of talks in a trilateral format, scheduled for early March.

The Ukrainian president expressed hope that upcoming contacts will allow for negotiations at the level of heads of state.
