Nine new public parks with a total area of 134 hectares are planned for nine districts in Tashkent. At a presentation on February 25, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan approved these and other proposals.

The projects require green spaces to cover at least 30% of the area (400 hectares). Plans include tripling green areas in Tashkent and adjacent territories to 25,000 hectares and increasing per capita green space from 3 m² to 6 m².

Expanding green zones is a priority to improve the urban environment and quality of life. Currently, over 3.1 million people reside in the capital, with population expected to more than double by 2045.

Tashkent Mayor Shavkat Umurzoqov reported that 85 construction projects totaling 2,679 hectares were reviewed. Projects were evaluated based on a unified urban planning approach, provision of at least 30% green space, comprehensive renewal of outdated plots, and avoidance of dense construction on plots under 1 hectare.

As a result, 18 projects were approved for implementation, 12 were recommended for optimization with adjustments to area, number of floors, and concept, and 54 require complete conceptual revision.

The President issued instructions to develop urbanization processes in the capital considering public interests, healthy urban environment requirements, and ecological standards. He emphasized that infrastructure fees (payments by developers to the city) should be directed primarily to creating new green zones, with the remainder for urban infrastructure projects.

Plans to expand the "New Generation" special industrial zone in Yangihayot district were also reviewed separately. The President highlighted the importance of gradually relocating large industrial enterprises from central Tashkent and placing high-value-added production capacities meeting ecological standards.

Implementation of approved projects is expected to generate an additional $1.5 billion annually in the capital's gross regional product, contribute 3.5 trillion soums to the budget, and create 260,000 jobs.
