Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the imposition of sanctions against Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko. The head of state wrote about this in his Telegram channel.
According to Zelenskyy, Lukashenko has "been exchanging Belarus's sovereignty for the continuation of personal power for quite some time" and, as the Ukrainian side claims, facilitates Russia's circumvention of sanctions.
Previously, Lukashenko stated his support for Moscow in resolving the Ukrainian conflict.
A year earlier, the Belarusian leader in an interview called Russia an ally of Minsk and criticized Kyiv's actions, stating that Ukraine had taken a "hostile" position towards Belarus by imposing sanction restrictions.
"I am the president of Belarus today and will defend the interests of the Belarusian people. As long as they coincide with Russian interests, Putin and I will act hand in hand," Lukashenko said.
