Stand-up comedian Nurlan Saburov performed his first concert after being banned from entering Russia. The show took place on the island of Phuket in Thailand.
During the performance, some of the artist's jokes focused on the ban itself. According to Saburov, many audience members came "to see a criminal," and he ironically compared the situation to restrictions imposed on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The comedian also joked that his new performances would be "so patriotic" that viewers might suspect TV host Vladimir Solovyov of being a foreign agent.
According to the Telegram channel Baza, the 2,000-seat venue was fully packed. Ticket prices ranged from 6,000 to 20,000 rubles.
Saburov is one of the most popular Russian-language stand-up comedians and hosts the YouTube show "What Happened Next?". He is a citizen of Kazakhstan. In early February, the artist was banned from entering Russia for 50 years, but official reasons for the decision were not disclosed. Unofficial reports suggest the ban may be linked to his refusal to cooperate with security agencies.
