Five saker falcons, rare birds of prey listed in the Red Book of Uzbekistan, have been returned to their natural habitat in the mountains of the Tashkent region. Before release, they underwent rehabilitation after being rescued from an attempted illegal export from the country.

The saker falcon is one of the rarest predatory species in Central Asia and is under international protection. After being rescued from smugglers, the birds received special care and rehabilitation. Experts deemed the condition of the five individuals satisfactory, after which they were released into their natural range.

Earlier, eight more rare birds rescued by border guards were also set free.
