Uzbekistan has started accepting applications for a microgrant program aimed at supporting environmental and sustainable development projects in the Aral Sea region. Winners can receive up to $10,000 for ideas in ecology, sustainable agriculture, ecotourism, and green business.

The program is implemented by the UNDP and the National Committee on Ecology with support from the Global Environment Facility. Its goal is to assist initiatives that improve local livelihoods, preserve biodiversity, and enhance climate resilience in the Aral Sea basin.

Applicants can include farmers, entrepreneurs, family businesses, and other registered legal entities from the Amudarya and Muynak districts of Karakalpakstan, as well as the Alat and Karakul districts of Bukhara region. Special attention is given to projects led by women and youth.

Funding will be provided in the form of equipment and materials to implement the ideas. Supported projects include rational water use, modern irrigation systems, eco-friendly agriculture and forestry, agroforestry, renewable energy, land restoration, ecotourism development, and job creation.

The application deadline is July 31, 2026, at 23:59 Tashkent time.

Earlier, amid growing water scarcity and climate change in the Aral Sea region, three Uzbek agencies signed a Concept for Integrated Water Resources Management of the Lower Amu Darya.
