Uzbekistan Hydromet Warns of Mudflow and Flood Risk in Mountainous Areas on March 18-19

The World Bank has approved a $10.6 million grant for Uzbekistan, aimed at reducing leaks in the country's aging gas transportation infrastructure and preserving natural gas for household and industrial supply. The funding is part of efforts to address systemic inefficiencies in the energy sector.

The body of an Uzbek citizen who died in a road traffic accident in India's Punjab state has been repatriated to his homeland with the assistance of the embassy. This was reported by the “Dunyo” news agency. The incident occurred on March 10 in the city of Zirakpur, Punjab state, resulting in the death of an Uzbek citizen identified as T.M.

Due to rising temperatures in Uzbekistan, the summer base norm for natural gas consumption – 100 cubic meters per month – comes into effect from March 16. This norm will remain in force until November 1, with exceptions in the Republic of Karakalpakstan and Khorezm Region, where it applies until October 1, aligning with seasonal energy demand shifts.

The Internal Affairs Directorate of Andijan Region, in collaboration with the State Security Service, uncovered a criminal gang engaged in assaulting people and street hooliganism during an operational search event on March 10. The gang leader is identified as 31-year-old Ismoilov Muhammadumar Bakhtiyor ogli (nickname “Umar”), a native of Asaka District, previously convicted under Articles 277 (Hooliganism), 110 (Torture), 112 (Murder or Threat of Violence), and 137 (Kidnapping) of the Criminal Code.

In the coming days, most parts of Uzbekistan are expected to experience predominantly dry and warm weather, aligning with the climatic norm for mid-March. According to data from Uzhydromet, no precipitation is forecast across the republic from March 16 to 18. Only brief rains are possible in southern and central regions during this period: on March 17–18, they may occur in Surkhandarya Region, and on March 18, they could affect some districts of Kashkadarya and Samarkand Regions.

According to the Podrobno.uz agency, residents of Uzbekistan in March have gained the opportunity to pay for an additional 50 cubic meters of natural gas at the base tariff. This is due to the extension of "winter" consumption norms because of cold weather at the start of the month and the subsequent transition to summer schedules as temperatures warmed.

Uzbekistan's 2024 cotton harvest, according to official data, reached approximately 3.5 million tons, marking the highest yield in recent years. This achievement is highlighted as a result of the government's policies to modernize agriculture and diversify the cotton industry.

Uzbekistan has marked a notable development in its agricultural sector with the delivery of a batch of 100 modern agricultural drones. These unmanned aerial vehicles are intended for monitoring farmlands, applying fertilizers, and protecting crops. The shipment was facilitated through an initiative by the Ministry of Agriculture with support from the World Bank.

The diplomat officially announced this appointment on his social media page. This move is part of Uzbekistan's efforts to expand its diplomatic presence in the United States.

The football club Neftchi from Fergana has won the Uzbekistan Super Cup for the first time in its history. In a historic final at the Bobur Arena stadium in Andijan, Neftchi narrowly defeated the capital's Pakhtakor with a score of 1:0.

Students from the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED) in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, will now have the opportunity to study at the law faculty of the University of Glasgow, one of the United Kingdom's leading higher education institutions, and earn a British diploma. This development follows negotiations during a visit to the UK by UWED's rector, Sodik Safoev, who also serves as First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis.
