Qatar, Egypt, Pakistan and other mediators have proposed a 10-day halt to hostilities between the US and Iran, Axios reported citing sources.

The proposal includes restoring navigation in the Strait of Hormuz during the truce and starting negotiations on long-term terms of use between the US and Iran.

The administration of US President Donald Trump is reportedly studying the proposal and has urged Israel to refrain from steps that could close the diplomatic window.

At the same time, the US is preparing for the failure of talks by deploying additional military forces to the region.

The Pentagon said on July 20 that about 100 US troops had been wounded in the last two weeks of the war with Iran, highlighting the intensity of Iranian strikes on US military facilities since the collapse of ceasefire talks.

US Central Command announced new strikes against Iran late Monday, hours after being warned of a service member's death. Iranian state media reported explosions in several areas.

As Trump weighs next steps, the US is increasing the number of fighter jets in the Middle East. Dozens of US refueling aircraft have arrived in Israel in recent days.

Kuwait intercepted 'hostile targets', sirens sounded in Bahrain, and Jordan said it shot down Iranian missiles. Iran has intensified attacks on these three countries hosting US military bases.
