Argentine President Javier Milei sparked a diplomatic crisis with Brazil after calling President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva a 'convict', 'delinquent' and 'thief' during a political event in São Paulo supporting Flavio Bolsonaro, son of former far-right President Jair Bolsonaro.

Brazil's Foreign Ministry recalled its ambassador to Argentina on Sunday, calling the insults 'unprecedented' and stating that no foreign president had ever hurled such offenses at the head of state, democratic institutions, and the Brazilian people on national soil. Brazil also summoned Argentina's ambassador for talks.

Milei also insulted Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, referring to him as 'bald trash'. Supreme Federal Court President Edson Fachin condemned the remarks as 'disrespectful'.

Former Argentine President Alberto Fernandez posted a video on X denouncing Milei's 'madman' behavior, saying 'insulting the president of a sister nation and our main trading partner is unforgivable'.

Buenos Aires Governor Axel Kicillof, a potential presidential candidate, expressed 'profound shame' and stated that Milei does not represent the Argentine people's feelings. He contacted Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira to convey this message.
