US President Donald Trump's wife, Melania Trump, chaired a UN Security Council meeting on the situation of children in armed conflicts. According to Deutsche Welle, the event took place on March 2 in New York against the backdrop of a US and Israeli military operation against Iran.
In her speech, the First Lady described the current period as a "difficult time." "The United States supports all children around the world," she stated, emphasizing the global nature of the issue. "I hope that peace will be granted to you soon," she added.
The previous Security Council meeting was held on February 28 and was urgently convened in response to the start of the US and Israeli military operation in Iran. UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the US and Israeli airstrikes on the Islamic Republic, stating they violate international law norms, including the UN Charter. He also criticized Iran's retaliatory actions, stressing the inadmissibility of violating the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Middle Eastern states.
Deutsche Welle reports, citing Iranian state media, that on February 28, a missile strike near the "Shajare Tayyeba" girls' school in Minab city resulted in at least 165 deaths and around 100 injuries. The Minab district prosecutor stated that most victims were students of the school. Commenting on these reports, Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson Nadav Shoshani said Israeli forces have "no knowledge of any Israeli or American strikes" in the specified area.
