The US has confirmed that six American soldiers were killed in an Iranian strike on a military facility in Kuwait. Initially, three deaths were reported, but the toll doubled after one person succumbed to injuries and two more bodies were found in the rubble.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that a US bunker in Kuwait was hit by a missile launched during Iran's retaliation, which evaded air defenses. He described a "powerful weapon" striking a "fortified tactical operations center," without providing details on the site's location.

Three US military officials with direct knowledge of the attack told CBS News that the service members were in a makeshift office space in Kuwait. They questioned whether the building was adequately fortified, noting a trailer was used as an office, shielded by 12ft (3.7m) steel-reinforced concrete barriers.

The US maintains a long-standing defense relationship with Kuwait, with over 13,000 American soldiers stationed in the Gulf nation. Iran has responded to attacks by launching missiles at US-allied Gulf countries, including Bahrain, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Qatar.

Separately in Kuwait, the US confirmed three fighter jets were downed due to a "friendly fire" incident. All pilots ejected and survived. Iranian state media claimed the Iranian military shot down the jets without providing evidence.
