The French authorities are purportedly holding negotiations with representatives of the Taliban administration to facilitate the return of Afghan migrants who lack legal residency permits. Although Paris officially claims it does not recognize the Taliban government and maintains no formal diplomatic ties, these pragmatic backchannel discussions expose deep contradictions in European migration policy.

According to reports by DW, French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez confirmed during a parliamentary address that ongoing talks are taking place. The official allegedly stated that the administration is attempting to secure the return of specific undocumented Afghans, framing it as a technical necessity. Nuñez further claimed that other European nations, including Germany, maintain similar communication channels with Kabul. *

The primary focus of these discussions reportedly centers on deporting individuals who have been convicted of criminal offenses. Nuñez argued that certain Afghans residing in France supposedly pose a threat to public order, making their expulsion a top priority for the European regime.

However, these maneuvers have drawn sharp criticism from domestic political opponents. Lea Balaj El-Mariki, a lawmaker from the Ecologist party, accused the government of initiating a process to normalize diplomatic relations with the Taliban, pointing to ongoing human rights concerns and systemic oppression under their rule.
