Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a decree on May 12 mandating the integration of artificial intelligence into the country's secondary education system for 2026–2029. The decree was published on the Akorda website.
The document aims to ensure Kazakhstan's sustainable development amid the rapid advancement of AI and to create an innovative education system as a key element of human capital.
The government is tasked with approving a plan for AI implementation in schools by July 1, 2026. The plan must include personalized learning mechanisms, digital infrastructure development, teacher training, and protection of students' personal data.
A pilot project to provide schools with stable high-speed internet is to be launched by August 1, 2026.
Standards for AI use in schools are expected to be approved by September 2025, covering content creation, learning assessment, and academic integrity guarantees.
Earlier, the Kazakh government reportedly used AI for economic forecasting. In late April, Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov instructed state agencies to adopt AI to improve economic policy efficiency.
Kazakhstan has declared 2026 the Year of Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence. President Tokayev stated that the introduction of advanced technologies would strengthen the country's potential in all sectors.
