The Chilanzar District Court for Criminal Cases in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, has sentenced the driver of a BYD Han car for hitting a traffic police officer while on duty in 2024. The defendant was driving without a license at a speed of approximately 100 kilometers per hour.
According to court proceedings, the driver ignored the officer's lawful demand to stop and continued moving, resulting in a collision. The impact caused the officer to sustain severe injuries, requiring eight days in intensive care and regaining consciousness only after 34 days.
The recovery process lasted six months, and the officer was able to return to full service after a year. The court found the driver guilty under Clause “b” of Part 2 of Article 104 (“Intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm in connection with the victim performing official duty”) and Part 2 of Article 219 (“Resistance to a representative of authority”) of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan.
Initially sentenced to 6 years of imprisonment, the final term was reduced to 5 years, 2 months, and 9 days, accounting for time already spent in custody. This case highlights the legal consequences of traffic violations and resistance to law enforcement in Uzbekistan.
