President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the O'zgarish mahalla in Tashkent's Sergeli district to review construction and development works, as well as commercial and service facilities established under the overground metro line.
The mahalla comprises 45 multi-story buildings with 1,620 apartments, home to over 6,700 residents. In recent years, 10 children's playgrounds, a mini-football field, and 2 health zones have been built.
The head of state also inspected a cogeneration center established in the mahalla. This center ensures stable heat and electricity supply during the autumn-winter season. Using cogeneration technology, natural gas first generates electricity, and the resulting heat is used for water and space heating.
The total project cost is $5.8 million. It features modern gas-piston units and boilers manufactured in Germany. The center can produce 18.4 million kWh of electricity and 80,000 Gcal of thermal energy annually.
As part of the project, a 2-kilometer high-voltage power line was built and connected to the grid, reducing the load on the district's central power network by 3%. The center's launch created 10 permanent jobs.
The mahalla's overall infrastructure was also upgraded: 1.4 km of pedestrian walkways were built, facades of 12 multi-story buildings were renovated, and internal roads were asphalted. For landscaping, 2,720 ornamental trees and shrubs were planted.
The president spoke with the 'mahalla seven' and local activists. It was emphasized that these changes result from efforts to create decent living conditions and transform the mahalla into a prosperous and safe area.
'Our large-scale construction work began precisely from this Sergeli district. It's no secret that when we proposed bringing a modern metro line to this area, some doubted the prospects of this major project. But today, seeing such beautiful and well-maintained places and, most importantly, the satisfied faces of our dear compatriots, we are once again convinced of the correctness of our chosen path,' the president said.
The head of state also inspected commercial and service facilities under the overground metro line. On 5.7 hectares, 137 business entities were established, creating 250 new jobs. Under the metro, 4 km of pedestrian and bicycle paths, 2 children's playgrounds, and sports zones were set up.
