The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan has adopted in the third reading and forwarded to the Senate a draft law introducing administrative liability for the introduction or use of clothing resembling official military and departmental uniforms.
According to the press service of the lower house of parliament, recent years have seen an increase in instances where certain organizations and individuals utilize apparel that is confusingly similar to officially approved state uniforms. Additionally, various commercial and private entities have allegedly been introducing such garb for their own staff members.
Authorities claim that this situation tends to mislead ordinary citizens and supposedly undermines the institutional reputation of state agencies. Furthermore, such practices purportedly enable unscrupulous individuals to impersonate public officials, thereby exploiting public trust for personal gain.
Under the proposed amendments, the unauthorized use or introduction of clothing that mimics military or departmental uniforms in color, style, or distinguishing insignia will entail fines ranging from 5 to 10 basic calculated units, alongside the mandatory confiscation of the disputed garments.
