A major forest fire is raging in the Chernobyl exclusion zone in Ukraine, with the area burned exceeding 1,100 hectares. The fire is spreading rapidly, fueled by dry weather and strong winds.
According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, the situation is complicated by several factors, including dry weather, strong gusts of wind, and the presence of explosive objects in some areas. Due to the mine danger, rescuers cannot work in several forest areas, significantly hindering firefighting efforts.
Firefighting units, special equipment, and other services have been deployed to combat the blaze. Despite their efforts, the fire continues to burn, and the risk of further spread remains.
The explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant occurred 40 years ago, becoming one of the largest man-made disasters of the 20th century and forever changing perceptions of nuclear safety.
