A court in Namangan has convicted three former police officers for brutally beating a citizen and attempting to unlawfully prosecute him. The incident sparked widespread public outcry.

According to court documents, the conflict arose from jealousy. The wife of the victim, Abdulahad Urmonov, had repeatedly reported domestic disputes to prevention inspector Bahromjon Dustnazarov. Based on these reports, the officer took measures against Urmonov, leading the latter to suspect a romantic relationship between them.

On August 14, 2025, the men accidentally met in Namangan. Urmonov expressed his suspicions to Dustnazarov, who then invited him to the police station under the pretext of clarifying the situation. Dustnazarov had premeditated the assault, conspiring with colleagues. When Urmonov arrived, they took him to a room without surveillance cameras and severely beat him.

A forensic examination later recorded severe, life-threatening injuries on his body.

To cover up the crime, the officers fabricated documents, accusing Urmonov of minor hooliganism and resisting authorities, and attempted to secure his administrative arrest. However, the court returned the case for further investigation, doubting the evidence. During the trial, the ex-officers were found guilty of abuse of power, evidence falsification, and unlawful detention. The court sentenced Bahromjon Dustnazarov to seven years, Islomjon Kodirov to six years, and Muhammadjon Tojiboev to five years and two months in prison.
