Uzbekistan's Terminology Commission under the Cabinet of Ministers has approved official Uzbek equivalents for 41 foreign terms. The new names were developed based on the norms of the Uzbek language and are recommended for use in official circulation.

The published list includes both long-used words and modern digital terms. Specifically, “anshlag” (full house) is to be replaced by “to‘liqband”, “antrakt” (intermission) by “tanaffus”, “banket” (banquet) by “ziyofat”, “brend” (brand) by “xosnom”, “dedlayn” (deadline) by “so‘ngmuddat”, “datchik” (sensor) by “sezgich”, “dekoratsiya” (decoration) by “sahnabezak”, “mikser” (mixer) by “qorg‘ich”, “palatka” (tent) by “chodir”, “rakovina” (sink) by “chanoq”, and “rasprodaja” (sale) by “arzonsotuv”.

A separate part of the list covers common internet concepts and new forms of employment. For “frilanser” (freelancer), the variant “erkin ishchi” is recommended; for “emodzi” (emoji) – “hisbelgi”; for “xeshteg” (hashtag) – “kalitso‘z”; and for “hostel” – “qo‘noquy”.

The approved equivalents are primarily recommended for official documents, business correspondence, state information resources, and public materials.

Earlier, deputies supported the update of the Uzbek alphabet, despite disputes over costs and compatibility of new letters with Unicode.
